Just got home from seeing Sponge Out of Water and I got to say that was a great movie. Now if you want to avoid spoilers don't open up or look at this journal because I promise it won't be spoiler-freeWARNING: THIS JOURNAL CONTAINS SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE MOVIE YET. VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.What's a great part about the film?
I say there are improvements from the first movie. First, the animation is crisp and has improved. They still have their cartoonish facial expressions. The animation is an improvement here, definitely something that is great for the cinema.
Another improvement on this movie is the character appearances. One of my main issues with the first film involved Sandy Cheeks and Squidward Tentacles (despite him having some lines) not appearing enough. Granted, Spongebob and Patrick are the main characters throughout the first one and it made sense that they were since it was a road movie. But here, Sandy, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs have more consistency and many lines. I enjoyed Plankton in this film, and development. It all involves "teamwork".
This movie is funny. My favorite part is where Burger-Beard the Pirate tries to end the whole story with the main characters completely doomed, yet the story continues because it can't end very quickly like that. And last, but not least is... the references. You have to spot and listen to them. Also, watch the animated credits.
What isn't great about the film?
Don't worry, I won't milk the movie up because that's never going to happen. There are some things about the movie that has its flaws. There were some parts that felt a little too long. Make notice the movie is longer than the first and is shows. It even takes a while for the live-action part to come into play and not sure how long it lasted, but it was pretty long.
Also, some of the humor. While are funny parts, there are parts that were not of that prospective. There's still a bit of toilet humor that kids would laugh at. But again, it doesn't completely ruin the movie if you ask me.
Also, one small pick about the characters, mainly Mr. Krabs and Plankton anyways. In Mr. Krab's case, he wouldn't listen to Spongebob about the situation that was going on, but you'll know what I mean once you see the film for yourself. However, things start to get better later on. The same goes for Plankton. While I did like several things he did in the film... well, there's a thing called Status Quo, and things go back to normal, you see.
Is the movie worth seeing?
I say yes. Some may ask "Is this better than the first film?" Well, no, BUT I say it was awesome though and still worth the money. There are a few things that were improvements, but the movie has its flaws. If you want to see this movie and looking forward to it, go ahead and watch it! I had fun watching it and hope you do too.
